Former Blackpool Star Turned Premier League Midfielder Signs For League Two Outfit

Notts County have announced the signing of former Everton and Newcastle United midfielder Dan Gosling on a short-term deal subject to EFL approval, it has been officially confirmed via a post on the club’s official website.

Dan Gosling was released by Watford last summer but has now penned a deal at Meadow Lane until the 6th of January following recent news that star midfielder Matty Palmer will see out the rest of the season on the sidelines due to injury.

Starting his career with Plymouth Argyle, Gosling made nearly 200 appearances in the Premier League with Everton, Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth respectively while also representing England at youth levels.

Notts County are undergoing an injury crisis in the centre of the park. With the recent loss of Matty Palmer, John Bostock and Geraldo Bajrami’s injuries have only further reduced the Magpies’ options in the middle.

Following on from the 34-year-old’s signing, Notts County’s board of directors said:

“We’re delighted to add a player of Dan’s pedigree to the squad at such an important time.

“We believe his obvious quality and experience will enable him to help the team in the short-term, which is vital given the unfortunate recent loss of Matt Palmer.

“Throughout his career Dan has proven himself to be a hard-working, tenacious and highly accomplished midfielder at the top levels of the game and, equally importantly, he has brilliant leadership skills and a fantastic mentality.

“He is fully aware of the culture we’re developing at the club and is coming here to win games and compete for success.

“We know our supporters will join us in welcoming Dan to the club and supporting him as he adapts quickly to life at Meadow Lane.”

Despite having signed a headline name, Notts fans will be most assured that their options in the middle of the park are not so limited anymore. The FA Cup runner-up will provide a wealth of experience and leadership qualities from higher up the football pyramid. This is a safe signing that makes sense, the only concern being a potential lack of fitness or sharpness having not had a club since his release from Watford in the summer.

Only signing Gosling on a short-term deal would suggest the midfield is an area Notts are looking to invest in during the forthcoming January window.
