Notts County have responded to bizarre rumours that US pop sensation Taylor Swift is plotting a move to take over the League Two outfit.
Pictures emerged this morning from Weekend Sport claiming that the singer was interested in taking over the Nottinghamshire based club, in a move similar to that witnessed at Wrexham with Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. However, these rumours were shot down almost as quickly as they surfaced, with County releasing a comical statement in response.
Taking to social media, the world’s oldest football club said used a series of Swift’s song titles to post a statement;
“As sorry as we are to disappoint the Swifties in our fanbase, we’re going to have to shake this story off. There’s certainly no bad blood between ourselves and Taylor but at such an exciting time for us and the club, she surely couldn’t have believed in her wildest dreams that we would relinquish our control.
“We’ll leave a blank space in tomorrow’s pre-match playlist for a track from her newly re-released 1989 album as a gesture of gratitude for her interest.”

Notts County returned to the EFL after a four-year absence this season following what was one of the most exciting title races in recent memory. Pushing eventual National League champions Wrexham to the wire, Luke Williams’ side eventually secured promotion in the most dramatic of circumstances with a penalty shootout win in the play-off final at Wembley Stadium against Chesterfield.
They’ve taken to life in League Two in spectacular fashion, currently sitting in second place ahead of tomorrow’s showdown with Wrexham at Meadow Lane.

Whilst a bizarre rumour, the global attention garnered by Reynolds and McElhenney at Wrexham and their Disney documentaries prove what an attractive acquisition this could be – especially with Notts County’s famous title race with the Welsh outfit last season having taken centre stage.
Current owners Chris and Alex Reedtz have done wonders for the Magpies since taking over the club in 2019 and it’s easy to see why they wouldn’t relinquish control during this new era, which could culminate in them playing third tier football for the first time in nearly a decade.
