Sheffield Wednesday Owner Shares Worrying Financial Issues

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has issued a worrying statement regarding the clubs financial status.

The club have already been placed under a registration embargo by the English Football League, due to money owed to HM Revenue and Customs.

Chansiri has shared that the players may not get payed this month, due to ongoing cash flow issues. He said: “We have a problem with cash flow. Money has not come in time, you have to understand that businessmen invest and do not keep cash in hand, we never keep money in the bank.”

“We spend and invest. Of course we need to get money back. If the cash flow is bad then we have a problem. I am not broke, the problem is cash flow.” He added.

The payments were due on the 23rd of October, but have still yet to be payed.

This has led to the Thai businessman saying that ‘negative supporters’ should raise the £2 million needed themselves, in order to help the clubs financial issues.

“If 20,000 people gave £100 then it’s £2m, and it’d be clear – so we can finish it. That would cover everything, HMRC and the wages.” Said Chansiri.

The club will have a three window transfer ban if they fail to make the payments, adding to the list of issues at the club.

It is always worrying to see a club with any financial issues, and it looks like it may be a long road to recovery for Sheffield Wednesday. It is strange to see a club with such issues, after coming off the back of a promotion season and regaining their Championship status.

The people who suffer most are the fans and hopefully they can regain some control of their club and get moving back in the right direction.
