Reading Boss Makes Interesting Admission About His Future With League One Outfit

In a recent interview, former Southampton head coach Ruben Selles has admitted that he is ‘not concerned about his position’ at Reading after a disastrous run of games for the club.

The Royals are sitting second from bottom in League One this season under the Spaniard. A 2-1 defeat at home to fellow strugglers Fleetwood Town in midweek means that Reading are now eight points adrift of safety.

The run of fixtures doesn’t get any easier either for Selles’ men who face unbeaten league leaders Portsmouth today, followed by Bristol Rovers, Derby County and Wycombe Wanderers over the coming weeks.

However, the ex-Saints boss has revealed he’s not worried about losing his job. In an interview with BBC Radio Berkshire, Selles said [quotes via BBC]:

“I know how football works. If you don’t win football matches you are at risk of being sacked and that is part of the sport.

“If it happens it happens, it is not for me to make that decision, we will just keep trying to make this team move forward and try and win matches, which is something we are lacking right now.

“I am not concerned about my position.”

In the aftermath of Tuesday’s loss to the Fishermen, Selles remained defiant in his post-match interview, believing he can turn things around before back-to-back relegations become a real possibility for the Royals [quotes via the Limerick Leader]:

“Can I turn this around? Of course. I am confident I can do this.

“At the end of the day some of the situations are about putting the ball in the net,” he continued.

“We have been talking and talking about this. We just have to be more ruthless. It’s all about us being together and making it better.”

To be frank, the situation at Reading on the pitch has been poor but off-the-field issues have certainly taken their toll on the players and coaches. If children are acting up, you blame the parents.

The ownership situation needs to be sorted as soon as possible to unite the fanbase once more with the playing staff which will hopefully see an upturn in results before it’s too late.
