Sunderland are interested in bringing Manchester United youngster Amad Diallo back to the Stadium of Light should the player be made available in January, according to reports.
The attacker spent the majority of last season on loan with the Black Cats and made a lasting impression, scoring 14 goals in all competitions, including 13 in the Championship as Tony Mowbray’s side finished inside the playoffs.
Diallo earned accolades such as the PFA Championship Fans’ Player of the Year award for the 2022/23 campaign as well as Sunderland’s Young Player of the Year award before returning to Old Trafford.
During a 2-1 win over Luton Town in the playoff semifinals last season, Diallo scored a wonderful goal cutting in from the right on his left foot, prompting Mowbray to label the Ivorian as a ‘magician’ [quotes via Tribal Football]:
“Amad, he’s a magician with his left peg and he’s scored many goals like that this season.”
The Ivory Coast international’s loan with Sunderland ended during the summer and the player would have been hoping to potentially break into Manchester United’s first-team this term under Erik ten Hag.
Unfortunately, Diallo suffered an injury in pre-season and has been absent ever since. Nevertheless, the player recently uploaded a photo of himself in his training gear on Instagram with the caption, ‘just a little longer before returning’.
According to iNews, Sunderland will look to bolster their attacking department by bringing Diallo back to the club on a short-term loan deal in January should the Red Devils sanction the move.

Manchester United may bite at the chance to send Diallo back to the Stadium of Light for the remainder of the season. Diallo hasn’t featured in a competitive game since last season and may not be back for another couple of weeks.
Re-signing for the Black Cats would put the young winger into a familiar environment where he can get back to his best.
