Sheffield Wednesday Favourite Makes Scathing Criticism Of Xisco Munoz

Sheffield Wednesday fan favourite Miguel Llera has openly criticised former manager Xisco Munoz and his players following a disastrous start to life back in the Championship.

After eleven games in England’s second tier, the Owls are sitting rock bottom in the table, having failed to win a single game and picking up eight losses and three draws in the meantime.

Munoz took charge of his final game in the dugout for Sheffield Wednesday at the Hawthorns against an in-form West Bromwich Albion last week. A subsequent 1-0 defeat in the West Midlands was the final straw for the Wednesday board who pulled the plug on the Spaniard’s time in charge.

Former Sheffield Wednesday defender Llera admitted he was shocked by what he saw from Munoz’s team and criticised both the manager and his playing staff. Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Llera said [quotes via Sheffield Wednesday News]:

“Under Xisco the main problem was without the ball. It was shocking. It was like having 11 mannequins on the pitch. There was no desire, no tackling, no closing down, no passion. It’s impossible to win games like that.

“If they were playing like that against a League Two side they’d still lose. Any player, if you are giving them seven, eight, nine seconds on the ball, it’s too long,” he continued.

“I couldn’t believe it from a manager like Xisco. I know they brought a lot of players in the last days of the window but are they fit enough? I’m not sure.”

Ex-Ipswich Town star Neil Thompson took over as caretaker boss for Saturday’s goalless draw with Huddersfield Town but the search for a new head coach is continuing at Hillsborough.

According to The Times, German coach Danny Röhl is said to be the favourite to succeed Munoz, with an announcement set to be made over the coming days.

Llera’s criticism was filled with passion but there is a lot of truth in his words too.

Munoz’s appointment at Wednesday was utterly disastrous and, if the team get relegated back down to League One, the first ten games of the season will be remembered as the catalyst.
