TalkSPORT pundit Alan Brazil believes England icon Wayne Rooney could be in line for the Everton job in the future should he succeed in his latest endeavour with Birmingham City.
The Blues made the questionable decision to relieve former head coach John Eustace from his duties with the side sitting sixth in the Championship, coming off the back of an emphatic 3-1 derby win over West Bromwich Albion.
Club CEO Garry Cook released a statement on Tuesday revealing the reasons behind Eustace’s sacking:
“John had clear ambitions and goals for the season. Unfortunately, following a series of meetings over a number of months, it became clear that there was a misalignment with the leadership of the Club. When this happens, the best thing to do is to part company.”
Manchester United legend Rooney was officially announced as the new Birmingham City manager on Wednesday, while two of his former teammates John O’Shea and Ashley Cole have also followed him to St Andrew’s.
The 37-year-old was recently in charge of MLS side DC United but stood down from his position on Sunday after failing to reach the playoffs. It seemed evident that Birmingham would be his next destination.
Many club supporters were taken aback by news of Eustace’s dismissal but will be hoping Rooney is the man to take the club back to the Premier League. Speaking on talkSPORT this morning, Alan Brazil believes that if the ex-Derby County manager excels, his next job might well be at Goodison Park [quotes via Goodison News]:
“I think if Wayne can do well with the Blues, he will go to Everton. Not just yet, he needs a couple of years. If he can prove himself and there’s money behind the club and he does well, then I think in his heart he’s Everton.”

It’s far too early to say that Rooney could be the next manager of Everton considering that he hasn’t even had a game in charge of the Blues just yet.
However, Birmingham City will be hoping that this decision will go better than when the board decided to sack Gary Rowett and replace him with Gianfranco Zola several years ago.
