Cardiff City fear that they could be without Aaron Ramsey for a number of months after he injured his knee during training, as reported by Dai Sport.
Ramsey returned to his boyhood club in the summer following a season at OG Nice and has scored three times from his six starts but now looks set to miss at least three weeks of action.
Not only will the injury impact The Bluebirds but Ramsey is set to miss Wales’ Euro 2024 qualifying matches against Gibraltar and Croatia. The report suggests that the midfielder is to seek the advice of a specialist but the club fears that he has ruptured a tendon that could lead to him being unavailable for months rather than weeks.
What’s Been Said?
Cardiff manager Erol Bulut confirmed that Ramsey had been injured during training and that it involved the same knee Ramsey had previously had surgery on. The Turkish boss said, “With Aaron Ramsey, two days ago, in training, he got an injury.”
“Something with his tendon in his knee, the same knee he had an operation many years ago. Whether it’s a rupture or not, there will be a final check to see what the situation is.”
The former Fenerbahce manager continued to discuss how the loss of Ramsey will impact his side but give others a chance to step up, commenting, “It’s a big blow. I’m gutted for him, personally. He’s been brilliant for us and I just hope he’s back as quickly as possible. Hopefully other people step up now.”
“The better players, sometimes lads will make runs knowing that they will get the ball and it makes you a bit quicker. We are starting to see that from everyone. Rambo is a massive.”
Ramsey himself announced the injury on his Instagram account, posting, “Absolutely gutted to say that last week I picked up an injury in training.”
“I will be seeking the specialist advice on next steps. I’m determined to get back and help the team as quickly as I can.”
Writer’s View
To state the obvious, a long-term injury to Ramsey will severely hamper both us club and country. Three goals in six games back at Cardiff is a great start but the influence that he can have on those around him is massive and the team will need others to step up and fill that void.
For the national side, the midfielder has scored 21 goals in just over 80 appearances and was a vital part of their side when Gareth Bale was playing but since his retirement, Ramsey carries even greater responsibility to guide the likes of Brennan Johnson.
Cardiff fans will be hopeful of a return following the next international break but the need for scans, the specialist and a Instagram post suggests this could be a long-term injury.
