Sheffield Wednesday head coach Xisco Munoz confirmed he has held conversations with chairman Dejphon Chansiri but remained tight-lipped on the content of these talks.
The Owls have had a dismal start to life back in the Championship and are the only winless team left in England’s second tier after Middlesbrough picked up a massive three points on Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Southampton.
Wednesday are rock-bottom of the league right now and are sitting four points adrift of safety, a gap that widens each weekend. Up next for Munoz’s side is a home game against an in-form Sunderland and a trip to West Bromwich Albion.
Pressure has been piling on the former Watford manager due to results this term and Munoz himself admitted to holding conversations with the club’s chairman Chansiri.
Speaking to the media this week, the Spaniard responded to a question about whether he had held talks with Chansiri by saying [quotes via The Star]:
“I speak with the chairman every week.”
“What I spoke with the chairman is for the chairman and for me.”
Palmer predicts Munoz’s future
Wednesday legend and current EFL pundit Carlton Palmer believes that the 43-year-old will be given ‘two or three more games’ to save his job at Hillsborough [quotes via Football League World]:
“Xisco, I’ve been told by a lot of people, is a lovely man. He of course guided Watford to the Premier League.
“But I’m being told that it’s more to do with the quality of the players at his disposal, not to do with how good he is as a coach. You don’t want to panic, but how long do you give him?
“I’d suggest he has maybe two or three more games before the chairman has to consider a change. Karma might come to bite Chansiri on the backside with Darren Moore going to Huddersfield – and I believe in karma.”
Writer’s View
Giving Munoz a few more matches would be fair as it’s still early in the season. However, given how tough these next couple of games are for Sheffield Wednesday, Chansiri’s hand may be forced by the end of next weekend.
The gap from the Owls to 21st-place will continue to get wider if the team don’t start putting points on the board.
