League One side Derby County are set to complete the loan signing of Sunderland attacking midfielder Elliot Embleton, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon.
The 24-year-old, who previously won promotion from League One with Blackpool, is set to make the temporary move to Pride Park from the Championship outfit in a bid to regain form following a comeback from a serious injury.
Embleton is set to undergo a medical with The Rams, with the hope the deal will be completed before the 11 p.m. deadline.
The signing of Embleton would be Derby’s 11th signing of the summer, joining the likes of defender Sonny Bradley, right-back Kane Wilson, midfielder Joe Ward as well as the return of striker Martyn Waghorn that have since made the summer move to Pride Park.
Embleton has gone on to make 92 appearances for The Black Cats in all competitions, scoring a total of ten goals and racking up 11 assists as he helped the club regain their Championship status.
He also helped Blackpool earn promotion to the Championship during a brief loan move at The Seasiders in 2021, scoring twice and assisting four times in 21 appearances at the club before returning to the Stadium of Light.
Embleton also spent the season on loan at League Two side Grimsby Town in the 2018/19 campaign, scoring four and assisting four in 30 appearances for The Mariners.
Paul Warne’s side have had a mixed start to the League One season, with The Rams currently sitting eighth in the table. The Pride Park outfit have so far won three of their five games, losing the other two with the club scoring ten goals, and conceding six times so far this season.
Writer’s View
I’m personally a big fan of Elliot Embleton. He’s a tricky player, a danger with a set play, alongside his weaker foot being as strong, if not better than his stronger foot. He’s a footballer who is very capable of chipping in with goals and assists and if Derby County were to get the deal over the line before the deadline, it’s an excellent piece of business.
There is, however, a sense of risk with Embleton only just coming back into the fold following a long-term injury, but I personally think it is a risk worth taking because, on his day, he’s an absolute joy to watch. I’m a big fan of this signing.
