Leicester City fullback Luke Thomas has been linked with a move to English giants Manchester United as the Red Devils are looking for defensive cover on the left side of their backline, according to the Daily Mail.
Erik ten Hag’s side have been relatively inconsistent so far, having won two out of the first three matches in the Premier League. However, injuries to both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia at left-back have left the club keen to sign a temporary replacement.
Diogo Dalot started for Manchester United on Saturday in a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest but ten Hag is seemingly unconvinced about the Portuguese fullback playing out of position on the opposite side of the defence.
The 20-time English champions have been linked with the likes of Marcos Alonso, Sergio Reguilon and even Chelsea defender Marc Cucurella but Thomas is the latest name to be thrown out there as Shaw’s replacement at the back.
The 22-year-old scored his first-ever Premier League goal at Old Trafford back in May 2021 when Leicester City earned a 2-1 win against a highly-rotated Man United team.
The Mail are also reporting that Leeds United have enquired about signing Thomas on loan before the transfer window slams shut this Friday but the Foxes are reluctant to sell to a direct rival in the Championship.
As reported by Sacha Tavolieri on Sunday morning, Leicester City have allowed Timothy Castagne to permanently leave the club, with Fulham set to announce the signing of the Belgium international before the deadline closes in just a few days.
Writer’s View
It seems unlikely that Leicester will let Luke Thomas leave at the same time as Timothy Castagne given the lack of depth in this position at the King Power Stadium.
While Manchester United’s interest may be enticing for the defender, when Shaw and Malacia return from injury he will be knocked down the pecking order and see his minutes diminished, meaning this may not be an ideal move.
