Former Lincoln City Midfielder Set For Move Back To EFL

Ex Lincoln City midfielder Jorge Grant could be set for a loan move back to the EFL with League One and League Two clubs circling for the Hearts’ players services, according to football journalist Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.

Jorge Grant’s time at Hearts hasn’t quite gone to plan so far, the 28-year-old midfielder only scoring twice for the Edinburgh based side in 39 appearances to date.

The former Imps star has also been left out of recent encounters altogether, not afforded a place in the squad whatsoever for a Europa Conference League playoff tie versus Greek outfit PAOK.

He’s also been named on the bench for SPL and Scottish Cup clashes, failing to come on and make an impression in any of those matches under Jam Tarts manager Frankie McAvoy.

Could a loan move see Grant reignite his faltering career?

Jorge Grant At His Best

Jorge Grant first made an impression as a footballer in the EFL, starring for a whole host of clubs as an exciting midfield option.

A loan away from parent club Nottingham Forest to arch rivals Notts County saw Grant burst onto the scene, scoring six goals in this memorable loan switch in just 17 matches played for the Magpies back in 2017.

The season after saw Grant return to Meadow Lane for a full campaign on loan, outdoing his previous best for the club by netting 15 goals in a side that saw him play with the likes of Shola Ameobi and Jon Stead. Despite both being experienced strikers at the club, the youthful Grant stood out.

Two mixed loan spells to Mansfield Town and Luton Town would follow before a permanent switch to Lincolnshire saw the attacking midfielder shine once again.

He would manage to score 19 goals over two seasons with Lincoln City, contributing with 24 assists too as an Imps man. His second campaign with the Imps saw Michael Appleton’s men reach the League One playoff final, spearheading by the attacking prowess of Jorge Grant alongside Morgan Rogers and other assets.

The 28-year-old would then struggle to settle at Peterborough United, a forgettable time with the Cambridgeshire side resulting in a move all the way up to Scotland.

Now, he’ll be hoping a loan move away can anchor him once more and get him back to his previous best.

Plenty Of Interest In Grant

There’s no doubt that Grant will have a long queue of suitors wanting to sign him on a short-term move, with Pete O’Rourke even reporting that some League Two clubs are interested in Grant’s short-term services.

It’ll be intriguing to see where the 28-year-old will end up next, and whether he can put his poor form behind him at Heart of Midlothian instantly or whether that weighs on him back in the EFL.

Could his former clubs be interested in a reunion deal, with Lincoln City and Notts County notably fond of their ex midfielder?

Writer’s View

Jorge Grant’s career has seemingly come to a standstill in Edinburgh, the ex Imps man unable to really get going in a Hearts shirt.

Hearts will hope that a loan break away will allow Grant to recapture the form that saw him dazzle in the EFL with the likes of Notts County and Lincoln City.

It remains to be seen whether or not Grant has that in his locker still, the 28-year-old’s last spell in the EFL was an unmemorable one with Peterborough United.

Still, on a short-team deal, it’s no surprise that a whole host of clubs are circling for Grant to bolster their attacking midfield options.
