The Professional Footballers’ Association have revealed the six nominees for the inaugural PFA Player of the Year award.
Each player is nominated based on their performances over the course of the 2022/23 campaign and so certain players may not be actively playing in England’s third-tier right now.
League One was fiercely competitive last season as Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town, and Sheffield Wednesday all earned promotion to the Championship, accumulating 295 points between themselves.
Plymouth’s Bali Mumba, Ipswich’s Conor Chaplin and Wednesday’s Barry Bannan have all been rewarded for their efforts, earning nominations for the PFA POTY award.
Meanwhile, Peterborough United’s Jonson Clarke-Harris was another name listed by the PFA after the 29-year-old scored 26 goals in 36 appearances for the Posh despite his side missing out on promotion after a horrifying collapse in the semifinal against the Owls.
Wrexham’s summer signing David McGoldrick has also been nominated for the prestigious award. The former Republic of Ireland international bagged 22 league goals for Derby County, making up a third of the Rams’ goals.
Finally, Bristol Rovers’ Aaron Collins has been put up for the award too. Despite the Gas’ 17th-place finish, the Welshman found the net 16 times during the campaign and was vital in helping his team secure safety.
The results will be announced by the PFA’s social channels on August 29th, exactly two weeks from today.

It’s an incredibly competitive list and each candidate certainly earned their own right to be nominated for the award.
Predicting who will win the award is a tough ask but each nominee will do well to come out on top against Conor Chaplin who was the joint-top scorer in League One with Clarke-Harris.
Chaplin was responsible for 26 percent of Ipswich Town’s goals as Kieran McKenna’s side gained promotion to the second tier with a club-record number of points.
