Bristol City Considering Two League One Stars After Scott’s Departure

Championship outfit Bristol City are keeping tabs on two League One stars after accepting a bid from AFC Bournemouth for highly-rated young playmaker Alex Scott.

The Cherries bid £25 million for the 19-year-old which was duly accepted by the Ashton Gate club, leaving a gaping hole in Nigel Pearson’s starting eleven. Work has now begun to replace the gifted teenager.

According to a report from journalist Darren Witcoop, the Robins are considering moves for Bolton Wanderers’ George Thomason and Oxford United’s Cameron Brannagan.

Witcoop also confirmed in his report on Twitter/X that Bristol City are hoping to bring a new forward into the squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, using the money from Scott’s departure.

Signings needed

Alex Scott quickly became vital for Pearson’s system and flourished last season in England’s second tier. The youngster was linked with some top clubs including Manchester United but Bournemouth ultimately won the race.

The deal was completed on Thursday, but on the same day, it was announced that forward Tommy Conway, a close friend of Scott, will be sidelined for up to three months with an injury problem.

As reported by Witcoop, the Robins will look to use the funds from Scott’s sale to replace the academy graduate but to also bring in a new forward to supplement the loss of Conway.

Bristol City were dealt a further blow yesterday when it was reported by the Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel that transfer target Jake O’Brien is set to sign for French giants Lyon.

They say that bad luck comes in threes. This was certainly the case for Bristol City over the past day and a half, losing Scott to Bournemouth, Conway to injury and O’Brien to Lyon.

However, with their newfound wealth from the sale of Scott to the South Coast, the board may be able to balance the squad out, perhaps signing Brannagan, Thomason and a new forward all at once.
