Reading CEO Makes End Of Season Admission

Reading chief Dayong Pang has spoken out in support of owner Dai Yongge, after the club faced relegation under the big boss, with quotes from The Reading Chronicle.

Speaking for the first time in nearly two years, communication between Readings higher-ups and fans has been hard to come by. However, following the men’s and women’s teams’ respective relegation, Pang has supported his owner and stated “he is fully committed” to bringing success back to the club.

Who Is Dayong Pang?

Joining the club in 2020 under the role of Chief Executive, Pang has a history with the club’s owner and is his right-hand man. Working alongside former Norwich player and Reading manager Mark Bowen, the two work as a pair to run the club’s operations.

A Season To Forget For Reading

Finishing the season in 22nd place which was unfortunately in the relegation spots, a six-point deduction for breaching the terms of a previous profit and sustainability rule cost the Royals a chance to remain in the Championship.

Starting the season under former manager Paul Ince, Reading began with four wins in their opening six games, which sat them top of the table for a period of time. Remaining inside the playoffs places until early October, the club would go on a run of 15 losses in their next 25 league games, which began their relegation fight.

Alongside the point deduction at the beginning of April, the Royals were unable to get a win in their last 13 games and suffered relegation to League One for the first time in 35 years.

What’s Been Said:

Speaking for a brief moment about the owner’s commitment to the club, Pang said:

“Our owner, Mr Dai Yongge, has his full focus concentrated on our club’s rebuild. He is fully committed to consolidating our efforts into a sensible and sustainable reset, designed to bring success back to RG2.”

Writer’s View

After finally getting some communication from the higher-up, fans would have still probably wanted to hear more after the season they had. With Yongge being in charge since 2017, the businessman has never conducted an interview while simultaneously bringing the club down.

With a new manager also set to be unveiled soon, hopefully some positivity can begin for the Royals as they begin a challenge to get back to the Championship.
