League One Trio Set to Battle for Grimsby Town Star

Wigan, Peterborough and Port Vale are set to battle it out for Grimsby star Josh Emmanuel, as reported by Pete O’Rourke from Football Insider.

Emmanuel is out of contract this summer and it was confirmed last month that he would leave the League Two side despite only moving to the club in January. The right-back is set to make his way back up the football league, with three League One sides interested, including promotion favourites, Peterborough United.

Who Is Josh Emmanuel?

Having come up through Ipswich Town’s youth academy, Emmanuel gained lots of EFL experience at a young age with multiple clubs. He had loan spells with Crawley Town, Rotherham United, and Shrewsbury Town. He left Ipswich in search of regular football, he spent a year with Bolton Wanderers in League One before spending two and a half years at Hull City, earning promotion to League One in 2021. He impressed for Grimsby, making 17 appearances for the Lincolnshire-based side as they earnt survival in League Two and made the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Throughout his career, he has amassed considerable experience in both the Championship and League One, making him a dependable choice and a valuable asset for any of the three of the League One teams that have shown interest in him.

Who Is Interested?

Recently relegated Wigan are interested in the full-back, but with their financial issues at the moment, any transfer deals at the moment may seem unrealistic. Peterborough are also interested in Emmanuel as they look to build a side capable of earning promotion to League One following their play-off defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last season.

Port Vale are also reportedly interested in the full-back this summer. Vale begin a new era under the management of Andy Crosby next season, and a marquee signing such as Emmanuel could be a big statement of intent.

Wigan seem to have more pressing issues at the moment with their financial predicament but Port Vale and Peterborough could be ideal locations for the full-back.

Port Vale and Peterborough will both be looking to invest this summer and the signing of Emmanuel would be an improvement for both teams on their current options.
