Charlton Athletic Manager Wanted By Championship Club

Charlton Athletic boss Dean Holden is being tracked by Huddersfield Town with Neil Warnock’s future in the air, according to reports from Ned Holmes of Football League World.

The 43-year-old most recently took charge of the Addicks mid-season, and his impressive spell has caught the eyes of the Terriers. However, with the London club facing uncertainty with their ownership, jumping ship to the Championship club could be on the cards.

Who Is Dean Holden?

A former player, Holden made over 400 appearances as a defender in a playing career that lasted 16 years.

Starting his time with Bolton Wanderers, the ex-player soon moved to Oldham Athletic where he made the most appearances for a club. Spending four seasons with the Owls, Holden featured 121 times for the club before switching around between teams. After spells with numerous EFL clubs for a couple of seasons at a time, the now-manager ended his playing career with Walsall in League One.

Time In Management

Soon after he hung up the playing boots, Holden took charge of former club Oldham mid-season on an interim basis in 2015. In charge of just 15 league games, the club icon managed three wins before returning to his assistant manager position after the season.

Gaining years of experience as an assistant manager, Holden got a Championship job with Bristol City where again he lasted less than one season.

What Did He Achieve With Charlton

After failing with the Robins and leaving Stoke City, Holden was hired as Charlton’s manager in late December of this season. Taking charge of 18th-place Charlton at the time, it didn’t take long for the former defender to turn the results around. Scoring consecutive victories and unbeaten runs, Holden had the Addicks finish the season in 10 place while being rewarded with a long-term contract with the club.

Writer’s View

With Huddersfield’s manager situation up in the air following the uncertainty of Warnock’s future, Holden is an interesting candidate for the Championship club. Underwhelming spells with Oldham and Bristol City shine a dark cloud over his managerial history, however, he did great work with Charlton this year.

It led to being rewarded with a long-term contract while the club figures out its situation upstairs, so his loyalty may be tested if Huddersfield are serious and attempts to appoint him.
