Nottingham Forest striker Lyle Taylor is set to leave the club following his contract expiration, with a host of Championship and League One clubs interested in his services, according to reports from Football League World.
Failing to make an appearance with Forest in the Premier League this season, the striker has a wealth of experience in the Football League. With Championship clubs Millwall, Rotherham and League One playoff finalists Sheffield Wednesday keeping tracks on the 33-year-old, a return to the EFL could be on the cards.
Who Is Lyle Taylor?
Starting his career at Millwall’s academy, Taylor has been an EFL regular, jumping around to multiple clubs over the course of his career. Getting his first successful break in the Scottish Championship with Falkirk FC, the attacker had 24 goals throughout the season, leading to a move to Sheffield United in League One.
Struggling to play consistently after more transfers, Taylor finally settled at AFC Wimbledon. With 30 goal contributions in his first season with the Dons, the Montserrat international helped secure the team promotion to League One.
Continuing to be a goal-scoring threat, Taylor moved to the Championship where he had spells with Charlton, Birmingham and the Reds.
What Move Would Be Best For Him?
At the age of 33, deciding on his next club will be important for the striker. With three teams interested, Taylor has a few different options with where he can go.
Struggling with game time at Forest, a move to a club fighting for promotion in Championship could be a bit ambitious. With most of his success coming in League One, Wednesday could be a good option in that sense, however, the Owls are still in with a chance to gain promotion to the second tier of English football.
Writer’s View
Taylor has a great track record when it comes to being a reliable goal-scorer in the EFL, so it’s not shocking teams are in for him following his uneventful season in the Premier League. In my opinion, a move to League One would be where the striker can find the most individual success, however, if Taylor still believes he can cut it in the Championship, then there should be plenty of options available to him.
