Mansfield Town received a summer transfer boost this afternoon, with Veteran Midfielder Stephen Quinn signing a new contract with the League Two side, as per the official club website.
This afternoon it was officially announced by Mansfield that 37-year-old midfielder Quinn had extended his stay with the club signing a new one-year deal. The vastly experienced midfielder has been with the club since January 2021, after signing from Burton, initially on loan, and the everyone at the club seems delighted that he is extending his stay.
Who Is Stephen Quinn
Quinn is an experienced defensive midfield, having made 509 appearances in his career to date, including two seasons with Hull City in the Premier League.
The Irishman is no stranger to Mansfield manager, Nigel Clough with the pair working together at Burton before Clough left the club in 2020 after stepping down. Clough came back into management the following season with Mansfield, and brought Quinn with him, initially on loan in January.
Last season Quinn made 36 appearances for The Stags, with Clough’s side finishing just out of the playoff places.
What Has Been Said?
Clough was clearly delighted to get this bit of transfer business done calling Quinn “a very influential” member of the team.
“I think it’s fair to say that Quinny has established himself as a firm favourite here, especially with the supporters.
“He’s a very influential player, both on the pitch on a Saturday and setting standards in training during the week.
“We’re delighted he’ll be here for another season.”
Quinn was as equally delighted to be with Mansfield for another season following the announcement, and it was clear that his aim was promotion to League One when speaking to the club official website.
“[I feel] Really good. I’m here for another season and I’m really delighted to get it over the line.
“I’m very much excited again for the new season to start. There were loads of factors, the biggest one was trying to get out of this league.
“That’s most important to me and everyone around. The chairman, the manager, they’re building something good here and I want to be a part of it, and I want to be involved in another promotion.”

Quinn is a vastly experienced midfielder, and he will be crucial both on and off the pitch as Mansfield look for promotion next season to League One after seeming to fall short every time they challenge. It’s important to have a core of a team, and Quinn is certainly part of that core at Mansfield, so I can imagine that their fans will be delighted with this piece of transfer business.
