Portsmouth Dismiss Interest From Championship Clubs For Star Striker

There are increased signs of confidence at Fratton Park in retaining the services of star striker Colby Bishop, according to The News (Portsmouth) .

Off of the back of remarkable season in which Bishop bagged 20 League One goals, rumours of Championship interest have emerged in recent weeks.

Soon to be Championship side Ipswich Town alongside Blackburn Rovers are both in the race for the Englishman’s signature however Pompey have made their stance very clear on where they stand with Bishop. With two years still left on his contract, it is looking highly unlikely that the striker will be moving on this summer having only joined the club last July.

Who is Colby Bishop?

Bishop has already become a fan favourite since joining from Accrington Stanley last summer for a reported fee of £500,000. The 26 year old has become the focal point of Portsmouth’s attack with 28 goal contributions in all competitions to his name in the 2022/23 season. He was snapped up by Accrington in 2019 from National League North side Leamington on a free transfer and established himself as a prolific marksmen during his three year stint with Stanley. Sweeping up the Players’ Player as well as Men’s Player of the Season in his debut campaign with Pompey, Bishop seems to only be getting started. A complete striker who is equally effective with his left or right foot, there is no doubt there is more to come from the striker next season.

Writer’s View

It is hard to see Bishop leaving Fratton Park in the summer, especially with two years still left on his contract. That being said he is a man with great confidence currently and looks ready for the step up to the Championship already. We will no doubt hear numerous rumours throughout the summer concerning Bishop, but Pompey should be able to retain their talisman’s services for at least another season unless a huge bid comes in.
