Portsmouth Star’s Revelation Amidst Championship Links

Portsmouth forward Colby Bishop has addressed his future at Fratton Park while speaking to The Portsmouth News, with the goal scorer being linked with a move away to the Championship.

However, he has put fans minds at ease, as he has said he plans to keep on playing in blue on the South Coast still next season, with two clubs in the Championship known to have the striker on their radar.

The comments will not reassure fans 100% though, as the striker admitted his future is not completely in his hands.

Colby Bishop.

Despite starting out at Notts County, the striker left for Gloucester City in 2016 and spent a few years playing non-league football, playing for four clubs at this level in the space of three years.

It was 2019 when he earned the attention of an EFL club again, as his goalscoring exploits put him on the radar of Accrington Stanley joining from Leamington.

He adjusted to life back in the EFL fairly quickly, 109 appearances for Accrington would see the forward score 31 times and provide 10 assists.

And in July 2022, he would join Portsmouth and has been a vital part of their team this season scoring 24 goals this year.

Blistering form.

Bishop has been in the form of his life for Pompey scoring 24 times this season for the club. The striker took a clean sweep of the club’s Player of the Season awards.

And that form this season has seen plenty of speculation about his future at the club with the player linked with a move away in the past despite only arriving last July.

But with two years left on his deal, the striker is keen to still be playing football at Fratton Park next season.

Transfer links.

Bishop has been linked with a move away to the Championship in the past as he continues to get better. Blackburn Rovers and promoted Ipswich Town have both been credited with an interest in the forward in the past.

And with his goalscoring exploits combined with Portsmouth’s failure to make good on their promotion hopes this season, it is easy to see him making a move up a division before the end of his contract.

What’s been said?

Bishop answered questions on his future as he told The Portsmouth News he planned to be wearing the same shirt next season. However, he admitted it is not completely in his hands.

“I’m trying not to say control the controllables because it’s a cliche, but I can only control what I can control. The other stuff is totally out of my hands, it’s not something I can control.”

With exciting plans coming up this summer for the forward as he prepares for his wedding, he stated he is not focused on the things he can not control, there may be elements he cannot control like the club having no choice but to accept a big money offer for their star player.

Bishop has been one of the most exciting players to watch in the league this season and his goalscoring exploits may have put him on the radar of more than just the two clubs mentioned.

Portsmouth may struggle to hold on to their forward, after missing out on promotion, he could easily be tempted by a move to the Championship, and the club may find themselves in a position where they cannot turn down whatever is on the table for the forward.

Blackburn are a club that may certainly come knocking for the forward this summer with Ben Brereton Diaz departing, they will be looking to replace their prolific goal scorer.
