Swindon Town boss Jody Morris admitted that he’s unsure what sort of resources the Robins will have going into next season, when speaking to the Swindon Advertiser ahead of his side’s away clash at AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.
The Robins manager, who is under significant pressure in the Swindon hot-seat with only three wins from 15 to his name, did deliver a rare victory in his last encounter making it one win in 10.
Jonny Williams’ late strike at the County Ground sealed all three points against a Bradford City side in the promotion reckoning, the opposition occupying the sorts of positions Swindon would love to currently find themselves in.
The 1-0 win on the day would’ve been a personal boost for Jody Morris and the Swindon supporters who hadn’t seen a win since late February, but they remain in an underwhelming 11th spot in the division.
To make matters worse, ex Robins boss Scott Lindsey has managed to taste success elsewhere with Crawley Town since being given the boot back in January from the County Ground. He’s managed to steer Crawley out of the League Two drop-zone, three points above Hartlepool in 23rd at the time of writing.
Swindon fans will begin to worry that their side could suffer even further next season, especially with Wrexham and Notts County both potentially winning promotion to the division.
Jody Morris might well require time to fully embed his ideas and get going, especially as this job at Swindon is his first real foray into being a men’s first team manager.
Speaking with the Swindon Advertiser ahead of an away trip down to Plough Lane, the ex Chelsea man turned Robins manager was unsure what next season would hold in terms of budgets and potential resources.
He said: “There are conversations that need to be going on, but they haven’t started yet. For me, there are quite a few things that need to be discussed at the football club to see what we can do and what the budgets are.
“Yeah [I don’t know what resources I have.]”
The Swindon boss, regardless of what might lie ahead in the summer, wants another positive display against Wimbledon on Saturday after the win versus Bradford – stating he couldn’t ‘care less’ about The Dons and how they’ve been performing recently.
He said: “We went toe-to-toe with them [Bradford] and came out on top. You could see they could cause us problems, but on the flip side they were giving us chances to hurt them as well.”
“I couldn’t care less on the other team’s form [AFC Wimbledon]. That shouldn’t affect how we’re preparing or setting up. Looking at us, we’ve played much better than Tuesday and not won. Our form looks bad, but I don’t think we’re that kind of team.
“It’s just another opportunity to build upon the good things we’ve done in the past two games.”
Writer’s View
Looking from the outside in, Swindon at the moment feels like a club lacking an identity.
Jody Morris might well have been poor in the dug-out to date – losing seven of the games he’s taken charge of at Swindon – but he’s not the only one responsible for the sour mood at the County Ground at the moment.
It’ll be intriguing to see what happens over the course of the summer in terms of Jody Morris’ position, the backing The Robins are prepared to give him and whether this poor season to date was just a blip. If you’re a diehard Robins fan, you’ll be hoping everything is looking a little better come the start of the next League Two campaign.
