Sheffield Wednesday manager Darren Moore gave his thoughts on The Owls’ recent injury crisis, in comments to Yorkshire Live.
The injuries piling up for The Owls in recent weeks has been one major factor in Darren Moore’s men slipping up near the top of League One.
Notable absentees from the Sheffield Wednesday set-up due to injury have included the likes of midfield talent George Byers, who hasn’t featured for The Owls since a 1-0 away win at Portsmouth in mid March.
Since Byers’ last outing -with numerous more knocks making it hard for Darren Moore to consistently pick his preferred starting eleven – Wednesday have only picked up two wins in League One action.
This has opened the door for the likes of Ipswich and Plymouth Argyle to take advantage in the automatic promotion race, The Owls even won on Tuesday night away at Bristol Rovers to stop a poor run of results but they still remain in 3rd.
Most of these knocks have been muscle related injuries, with faces such as Jack Hunt and Callum Paterson also falling victim over the course of the campaign to date.
Their Tuesday night encounter at Bristol Rovers wasn’t without injuries either, Akin Fawemo exiting the contest at the Memorial Stadium hobbling off the pitch.
With three matches of the League One season still to play – and the potential of Wednesday having to battle it out over further matches in the third tier playoffs – Darren Moore’s squad could potentially be spread even further thin.
Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Darren Moore offered his own unique verdict on the injury issues plaguing his promotion-chasing squad and the many aspects involved that can cause a knock.
He said: “Like I’ve explained before, there’s many aspects: the speed of the game, the volume, the travel, the pitch density. I’ll even say the boots of the players! I look at the boots players wear now and they’ve just gone full circle from what I used to play in.”
“Even things like that can affect these injuries. You could break it down and spend fortunes and look at all these aspects but there’s too many areas to cover. What you try and do is make the players as physically conditioned to withstand all this.”

Sheffield Wednesday seemingly haven’t had the rub of the green over recent weeks. At one stage, it looked as if Darren Moore’s men were guaranteed promotion up to the Championship.
Unfortunate injuries to key individuals have hindered Wednesday at the worst possible time – Josh Windass another one who has been sidelined frequently this campaign with little niggles here and there.
Fans of the Hillsborough based club will just pray that they have enough in the arsenal – regardless of injury issues and other factors – to secure a promotion they so desperately desire.
IS DARREN MOORE the man to get us up, there is a lot doubting him now in the stand.
we all knew no money spent in the January window meant trouble for Wednesday we did nothing the now top two strengthen there squads is the CHAIRMAN holding back again on the money ??????????
