Portsmouth Boss Rejects Claims Of Premier League Interest

John Mousinho has discussed the reports linking 16-year-old Koby Mottoh, claiming he and the club know nothing of the interest that has been claimed between the academy talent and Manchester City.

Last week, it was claimed by Football Insider that the Premier League Champions were interested in the former Arsenal academy prospect, as they looked to bolster their youth academy.

City have had some big names come out of their academy, including the likes of Jadon Sancho, who now plays on the red side of Manchester, as well as players who have been able to break into the first team such as Cole Palmer.

Speaking to Andrew Moon of BBC Radio Solent Sport, Mousinho rubbished the claims that the Premier League giants were hunting down their youngster, saying he knew nothing of the interest.

“We know nothing of any of the interest, sometimes it’s interesting to see where these stories come from.

“The first thing for him is to make sure he gets a pro contract for next season.”

Mottoh only joined the South Coast club last summer, after his time with the academy at Arsenal came to an end.

He has caught the eyes of many on the South Coast as well as the attention of top clubs this season, with his impressive performances within the academy.

The forward bagged himself a brace for the Academy in his most recent appearance, helping them to a 4-0 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Merit League One.

It remains to be seen where the youngster’s future lies past this summer, but Mousinho’s comments show that they value the forward and remain committed to the player.

It is tough to see the forward staying on the South Coast with the calibre of the clubs involved. With City’s reputation for developing players to a higher level, it is understandable if the player has a ticket booked to Manchester already. While the club remain committed to the player, such as the comments on signing him to a pro contract, if they really want to do what is best for the player, they will not stand in his way should City approach.
