Gillingham have announced that Max Ehmer has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay with the Kent club beyond the end of this season according to the club’s official website.
After it had been reported earlier that Gills boss Neil Harris had shared that contract discussions, had taken place with Ehmer. The club have now announced a significant breakthrough in negotiations meaning that the 31-year-old defender has now put pen to paper on a new deal, keeping him at the Kent-based club beyond the end of the current season.
Ehmer first joined the Gills back in 2014 and has been ever-present in their back line since, apart from a spell at Bristol Rovers during the 2020/21 season. He recently celebrated making his 350th appearance for the club, scoring on 17 occasions, the German currently sits 14th on the all-time appearance list for the club.
He had this to say upon signing his new contract with the club:
“I am delighted to have signed a new contract. I feel at home here, I very much enjoy playing for the club, I have a great relationship with the fans and I will continue to give my very best to achieve our collective goals.”

It’s been a busy week at Priestfield, with the announcement of Ehmer’s new contract following the news earlier in the week that COO Paul Fisher has departed the club with immediate effect.
The Gills welcome Stockport to Priestfield this Saturday with County in the hunt for one of the highly contested automatic promotion spots this season. The Gills on the other hand find themselves just 6 points away, from being mathematically safe in League Two. Their home form has been impressive of late with eight wins in their last nine at home, but Stockport will be a tough opponent having not lost a game since February.

It’s great to see the Gills get such an important player locked into a new contract early. Ehmer is vital to this Gillingham team and I’m sure Harris will be delighted that he has tied him down to a new deal.
Many Gills’ fans expect for the club to be competing at the top end of the table next season. It’s certainly a good sign that they are getting the business done early for next season.
