Gillingham Announce High-Profile Departure

Gillingham have announced the departure of COO Paul Fisher with immediate effect.

Fisher, joined the Gills back in 2022, under old owner Paul Scally to “be responsible for the day-to-day running of the club”.

It is well documented that he played a vital part in ensuring a smooth transaction, during the takeover of the club, by Brad & Shannon Galinson.

After joining in August, Fisher has overseen a number of changes at the football club off the pitch, the big of course being the takeover.

However, his impact doesn’t end there, as he was also at the forefront of a number of changes, aimed to improve fan engagement and involvement in the club.

In an announcement on the club website, the club confirmed that he has left his role with “immediate effect”

Fisher, had this to say on his departure.

“I was brought in by Paul Scally last summer and I would like to think I now leave the club in a far more secure position than it was back then.

I have really enjoyed my time back at Priestfield and working with Neil, his management staff, the players and the team behind the scenes. It has been a pleasure to work at the club I have supported for over 50 years.

I remain a fan and I look forward to getting my season ticket for the exciting times ahead.”

The club confirmed in their statement, that Fisher’s departure is a move for him to focus more time on “his growing advisory and consulting company, G.V.S.”

This was, of course, Fisher’s second stint at the Kent club after previously acting as finance director back between 1997 and 2001.

Prior to his appointment with the Gills, Fisher was a director at the Jockey Club and has had a number of roles throughout horse, racing over the years.

The club’s owner, Brad Galinson had this to say on the departure, in a statement on the club’s website.

“I’d like to thank Fish very much for his tireless efforts during his time at the club.”

“We had numerous conversations with him prior to completing our takeover and his input was pivotal in getting the deal over the line before the New Year.”

“His hard work will not be forgotten, he will always be welcome at Priestfield and we wish him well in his future endeavours.”

Following the announcement, Fisher took to Twitter to assure fans that his departure was “very amicable”.

The club is yet to comment on the future of the role & if a replacement is to be named, or if the role is to be left vacant.

It seems an odd time for Paul to depart Gillingham, with some time still remaining of the current campaign.

Having seen the work that Paul has put in around the club over the last year or so, as well as the ongoing projects, the announcement certainly came as a shock to me and I’m sure most Gillingham fans.

It will be interesting to see what the club have planned, in terms of the future of his now-vacant role. Could we see a new face coming through the door at Priestfield?

As a Gillingham fan myself, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul for his work in saving our club and wish him the best in his future endeavours.
