Sheffield Wednesday confirm star man Barry Bannan has triggered a one-year extension clause in his current contract. The news was announced on the club’s official website.
Barry Bannan will be staying at Sheffield Wednesday next year after triggering an extension in his current contract, which means he will be with the club for at least another year.
His manager, Darren Moore has confirmed the news and had this to say about his midfielder speaking with BBC Sport.
“It’s fantastic, the fans have taken to him since he’s been here”
“But it’s not just that, Baz (Bannan) is so committed to the football club that it’s nice to know it will continue”
“In terms of where he’s at, it’s nice to know, for the future in terms of player and club”
It’s believed that the clause that has triggered the extension was based on appearances. Effectively, once Bannan hit a certain amount of games this season, a one-year extension of his current contract is triggered therefore extending his stay.
Bannan has been with the Owls for seven years and will celebrate eight years this summer.
With his future secured for at least next season, Bannan can now look forward to his eight year anniversary as a Wednesday player.

I did a piece not too long ago on potential destinations for Bannan if he was to leave at the end of his current deal with the Owls, I said in there that I didn’t see him leaving the club.
I think most of us knew it was only a matter of time before he committed his future to the club and many were already aware of the clause in his current deal.
It’s great to see him commit another year to the club, loyalty is a trait lost on many in the modern game.
Here’s to many more years of Bannan in a Wednesday shirt.
