With promotion to the Football League in Wrexham’s sights, they are set to sign former Man United and West Brom goalkeeper Ben Foster, according to Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider.
The 39-year-old is set to come out of retirement to join the North Wales club, after calling time on his career at the end of last season.
The Red Dragons were dealt a blow to their promotion push when they lost starting goalkeeper Rob Lainton to an injury that could keep him on the sidelines for up to six weeks.
In learning the news, Wrexham has convinced the former Premier League star to make a return to the game.
Foster most recently spent the last four years of his career, playing across the Premier League and Championship with Watford. During that time, Foster gained a huge audience under the name of The Cycling GK, with his ‘game vlogs’ showing the behind-the-scenes events on matchdays.
The shot-stopper will be no stranger to Wales, after a brief loan spell for the Robins 18 years ago in 2005.
From there, Foster would go on to sign for Manchester United and make a total of 390 Premier League appearances. With 17 seasons of experience in the top division, Foster kept 92 clean sheets in that time and played for the England National team eight times.
Foster will be joining a Wrexham side that is top of the National League, three points clear and with a game in hand on their closest challengers Notts County. With both teams looking dominant throughout the season, it’s set to be a close finish to the year, with the new signing likely playing a pivotal part.

This signing is massive for Wrexham and will remove any doubt that would have come to their promotion push after losing Lainton.
While Foster will be coming out of retirement for the move, he showed during the end with Watford that there will still plenty left in the tank as a No. 1 goalkeeper. For him to drop as low as the National League is surprising, however, he will provide a great amount of knowledge for the team and help them kick on for their target of promotion.
