Crewe Alexandra Keen To Tie Forward Down Amongst Rival Interest

Crewe Alexandra striker Dan Agyei is the main talking point at Gresty Road at the moment, with the forward also being eyed up by other clubs ahead of a summer move, according to Cheshire Live.

The Railwaymen have relied on the 25-year-old’s keen eye for goal all season, with their number 11 scoring 12 goals this season from 34 league games. This resulted in Dan Agyei being nominated for League Two Player of the Month in February.

Crewe Alexandra currently sit 17th in League Two, 13 points above the relegation zone with 12 matches left to play, which should be enough to keep them in the football league this season after a tough campaign.

Agyei has been one major positive in an otherwise underwhelming season for The Alex, with relegation from League One last season causing the side to slump even further this campaign.

There have been positive results recently for The Railwaymen, as Lee Bell’s men are unbeaten in their last seven matches.

Dan Agyei has played a key part too in recent Alexandra success, scoring in recent draws versus Sutton United and Harrogate Town. His main starring role however came in the Railwaymen’s last encounter against Salford City, as he scored twice, including a last-gasp winner at Gresty Road – to help Crewe win 4-3 in a breath-taking contest.

As a result, the hierarchy at the club will want to tie Dan Agyei to a new contract to keep him at Gresty Road and fend off interest from other sides, hoping to land his signature.

Lee Bell, Crewe’s manager, spoke about efforts to tie the 25-year-old down to a new contract deal.

He said: “It is ongoing. Like everybody who is out of contract, the process started ten days ago and it will speed up over the next couple of weeks in terms of getting feedback from representatives.

I like to talk to the players and see what they are thinking, ask them to be honest.

But he will be someone in demand. There is no point lying about it, but we have to do everything to keep him at the club.”

With Crewe struggling in League Two this season, it’s no surprise to see Dan Agyei – the star-man for The Railwaymen – being linked with moves away to pastures new.

Despite clubs circling for his services, the Crewe striker needs to remain focussed on the mission ahead and see out the season with the club. Praised by the Crewe manager for remaining professional, he could well stick at Crewe after various moves up and down the country early into his career.
