Doncaster Rovers’ Danny Schofield Given Leap Of Confidence From His Player

Doncaster Rover’s striker George Miller has praised his manager Danny Schofield on improving him as a player after finally ending a four-month goal drought.

The 24-year-old has gone four-months without a goal, however, ended that drought during Rover’s 2-1 win against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

The goal was Miller’s 12th of the season but just his fourth since Schofield took charge in October. During that time the Englishmen was taken out of the starting XI for some time, in favour of January signing Caolan Lavery.

This is Miller’s first season with the League Two side after signing from Barnsley in the Summer for free. In his young career, Doncaster is the eleventh team Miller has been a part of, but with a strong season last year and a good start to this season, the forward has shown plenty of potential.

Following Rovers’ win of the weekend, the result still leaves them in the race for the playoffs. Sitting 11th, they are six points away from 7th-placed Salford, however do have a game in hand on the ‘Class of 92’ owned club.

As usual, League Two is tight at the top half of the table, but with Miller finally ending that drought, he and others will be looking to push on for one of those places.

Speaking to Steve Jones of Doncaster Free Press about his time under Schofield, Miller said:

“It’s not easy to come out of the team but at the end of the day it’s his (Schofield’s) decision and he is the manager for a reason.

“Football fans who know football can see how my overall game has improved.
“Whether you’re starting, not starting, not in the squad, there’s not one person in that dressing room who can say they are not a better player for him being here.”

As a striker, scoring goals is ultimately what they get viewed on so it’s refreshing to see Miller open up about that.
Miller had a good thing going on earlier in the season, but even he admitted that his style of play wasn’t sustainable and improving his overall game may be worse for the stat sheet, however, the manager will appreciate him more.
Now finally getting that chip off his shoulder he can hopefully play with more confidence and continue a strong last two years.
