Sheffield Wednesday has recalled youngster Ciaran Brennan from his loan at Swindon Town after needing surgery on a season-ending injury, according to Alex Miller of The Star.
The 21-year-old joined the Robins in the Summer and was one of the first signings under former manager Scott Lindsey.
Brennan made 20 appearances for the League Two side in all competitions, starting in 17. His most recent was in Swindon’s 3-0 win versus Harrogate on the 25th of February, where the Irish international came off just before half-time because of the injury.
The defender was stretchered off the field and rushed to the hospital with a suspected dislocated shoulder. Initial suggestions were that swift medical intervention had limited damage, however, surgery has since been recommended, unfortunately ending Brennan’s season.
This is the third season-ending injury for a Swindon defender this season, with Mathieu Baudry and Ellis Iandolo also expected to be on the sidelines for the coming months. With a shortage at the position, a stopgap signing in Tom Brewitt was made, however, there’s still hope Frazer Blake-Tracy can make a return at some point.
Despite all the injuries, the Town is starting to see process under Jody Morris after back-to-back wins and a well-earned point away to league leaders Leyton Orient.
As they try to work themselves back into the playoff places, Swindon is a reasonable seven points away from 7th-placed Salford City but has two games in hand on a few teams above them.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore spoke to The Star explaining the situation.
Moore said: “We’ve brought him back to do his rehabilitation with us.
“He’s going to require an operation. We’ll get that done and we’ll get him rehabbed but that will be the end of his season now and we’ll get him ready for when we get back to things in pre-season.

With the number of injuries Swindon has suffered in defence, losing any player for a significant amount of time will be a tough loss.
With that being said Brennan’s season never quite lived up to the expectations people had of him. Players such as Tom Clayton and Black-Tracy seemed to have surpassed him at the position if everybody was healthy.
Unfortunately, everyone wasn’t in full health, so despite not being a nailed-on starter, Brennan would have been a suitable cover piece for the remainder of the season and likely would have featured a fair bit. We wish him a speedy recovery.
