Accrington Stanley have confirmed the departure of defender Harry Perritt to National League outfit Altrincham on a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old returns to the J Davidson Stadium after a successful loan spell last season, where he made 20 appearances for the Greater Manchester-based team. He returned to Accrington in the summer where he re-joined their under-23 side and he made his first appearance of the season for the first team in November as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over Cambridge United.
Perritt emerged through Stanley’s youth setup and penned his first professional contract in 2019. He made his debut the following year in the EFL Trophy defeat to Lincoln City and ironically, his final outing at the Wham Stadium came against the same opposition as he endured an afternoon to forget. Introduced at half time following an injury to Ryan Astley, the youngster was sent off just 11 minutes later for hauling down Imps attacker Olamide Shodipo after being caught in possession inside his own half.
A final appearance came in the away draw against Cheltenham last month before his departure was confirmed this afternoon. In a statement on Accrington’s official website, Perritt thanked the club that gave him his break in professional football;
“I would like to say a massive thank you to all of the staff and the lads for everything they have done for me.
“The club will always have a place in my heart and I wish everyone all the best going forward.”
The non-league outfit also announced the news through their official channels, where they were understandably delighted to sign a player who was a big hit for the club last season;
“Altrincham have pulled off another significant signing that underlines the benefit of a successful loan system after landing versatile defender Harry Perritt from Accrington Stanley on a permanent transfer.
“Harry made a huge impact during a temporary stay with Alty last season, and when the opportunity arose to recruit him again, this time for good, an agreement between the two parties was quickly reached.”

This is a shrewd piece of business for Altrincham as they look to cling on to their faint hopes of reaching the National League play-offs. Perritt was a popular figure during his loan spell at the club last season and he will be welcomed back by supporters with open arms.
It’s a move that suits all parties and it was clear with the defender’s lack of game time this season that he was going to struggle to hold down a first team spot at the Lancashire club. This will give Perritt an opportunity to cut the grade in a strong, competitive league and gain valuable experience in a critical part of his young career.
