Northampton Town midfielder Ben Fox has been ruled out for the rest of the season after recently undergoing surgery on his ankle, as confirmed by the player on his personal Twitter account.
The midfielder picked up the injury during a 0-0 draw at home against Wimbledon, when he was forced off after 75 minutes with an ankle injury.
The injury came at the time Fox was beginning to enjoy a fine run of form in the Northampton team, including some fine individual performances.
He helped Northampton to an impressive win against top-of-the-league Leyton Orient, as he scored the game’s only goal. He also chipped in with the equaliser in the 89th minute against Rochdale as they took what could prove to be a valuable point .
Northampton are 4th in League Two and have only managed one win in the previous six games, and with the news that Fox is out for the season, it adds to the Cobblers’ problems and injury woes.
Fox will be hoping that his side can pick up some form in the coming weeks, as they find themselves only four points above eighth place Mansfield after a run of poor form.
They will still believe they can gain automatic promotion, but with how tight it is at the top, play-offs aren’t guaranteed for the Cobblers.
Although Fox hasn’t been able to make the impact he may have imagined after his move in the summer from Grimsby, his season now ends prematurely after his surgery.
Fox was vital for the Mariners last season as he helped them return to the football league, producing a fantastic display in the final against his former side Solihull Moors.
This isn’t the first significant injury of Fox’s career; he’s been left frustrated over the past few years with injuries that have seen him spend a large amount of his relatively short career on the sidelines.
Even though being ruled out for the rest of the League Two campaign is frustrating, Ben confirmed on Twitter that the operation was successful.

Although Ben Fox has started less than half of the games this season, when he has played he’s been influential, especially of late.
I think this could prove costly in terms of Northampton missing out on automatic promotion.
Northampton Town seem to be struggling in recent weeks, so with less depth in midfield, it makes Jon Brady have to rely on his current midfield.
