Bluebirds Striker Set To Be Out For A ‘Couple Of Weeks’

Barrow boss Pete Wild has confirmed to The Mail that striker Josh Gordon is set to be out of action for at least a ‘couple of weeks’ as he recovers from a hamstring injury.

The 28-year-old missed last week’s trip to Colchester United because of the injury, with the game going on to finish 1-1 at the JobServe Community Stadium, with Kwesi Appiah going on to secure the home side a point in the 96th minute following Ben Whitfield’s opener for the Bluebirds.

The striker is Barrow’s top goalscorer this season, finding the net on 11 occasions in 27 appearances as Barrow currently occupy 10th position in League Two, a point outside the play-off places.

Gordon joined Barrow from fellow League Two side Walsall in the summer of 2021 where he has gone on to score 18 goals in 75 appearances for the club, following 27 goals in a total of 123 appearances for the Saddlers.

But Barrow boss Wild has confirmed that Gordon would undergo a scan to discover the full extent of his injury ahead of welcoming Newport County to the SO Legal Stadium in the league, with a victory potentially lifting the club back into the play-off places with other results going their way.

On Gordon’s injury, Wild said: “He (Gordon) has got a little tweak to the hamstring that has now hopefully settled down and hopefully he can be built up over the next couple of weeks and back in and amongst it.

“It has settled down really well, so we are really pleased with that. Hopefully, next week he will get out and start getting on the pitch and start getting some movement back into the hamstring and hopefully from there it won’t be too long until he is back on the pitch.”

Despite Gordon’s injury, the good news for Barrow and Wild however is that the rest of the squad are injury-free ahead of their game against Newport County on Saturday.

Wild added: “There is no injury worries, they are all good. Now it is down to me to look at our squad and look at the best team to go out on Saturday for the physical battle that will come from Newport.”

The loss of Josh Gordon for at least a couple of weeks is obviously a blow for Barrow as they head towards some challenging fixtures in the coming weeks that will test their push towards the play-off places, with the likes of Bradford City, Stockport County and Salford City all to come before the end of the month.

The Bluebirds will certainly be missing their top goalscorer for at least a little bit of time, but Billy Waters already has eight goals to his name this season and following his signing from Fleetwood Town in January, this could come as a good opportunity for Ged Garner to step up to the plate.

Barrow fans, what are your thoughts on this?
