Ipswich Target Attacking Duo

Ipswich Town have expressed an interest in forwards Nathan Broadhead and George Hirst according to East Anglian Daily Times.

Broadhead was promoted to the Championship with Sunderland last season and has spent the first half of the season on loan at Wigan Athletic but was recalled by parent club Everton yesterday. Reports since have suggested that a 7-figure-fee for the striker had been offered and negotiations between The Toffees and The Tractor Boys have commenced as a previous article covered by The Real EFL’s Callum Moseley.

The second target is Leicester City’s George Hirst who is still on loan at Championship side Blackburn Rovers, Hirst has found starts hard to come by at Ewood Park and his parent club look set to recall him. He was pictured in the stands at today’s FA Cup victory at Portman Road. In the summer, Ipswich made Hirst a prime target but missed out to Rovers. They could be set to resume their interest this January window.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna commented on the matter after the game,

“Yeah, look, there’s nothing really to report,”

“There’s no point denying or confirming anything. Obviously everyone has camera phones. If you have a camera phone and a Google then you can identify people.”

He went on to say,

“It’s an important window for us. We’re looking to improve the squad. We’re looking to add players who fit the profile in the short and long-term.”

Writer’s View…

A large fee for Broadhead is fair as he is proven at a League One level but personally I think that the quoted figure is too much. Hirst adds quality and proved his ability when he scored 15 goals for Portsmouth last season.

Ipswish already have good options going forward but are hoping for promotion and need players to compete at the step above.

Overall, both players would be a real show of intent for the rest of the campaign and add to an already incredible Ipswich side. Aswell as preparing them for life in the Championship if they get there.
