“Leave Him Alone” – These Derby County Fans React To Club News

Derby County fans have been giving their reaction to the news about manager Paul Warne.

The former Rotherham man has made quite a name for himself at Derby over the last couple of months, culminating in a nomination for the coveted Manager of the Month Award in League One.

The Rams boss is nominated for the accolade alongside Michael Duff of Barnsley, Wade Elliott of Cheltenham Town and Darren Moore of Sheffield Wednesday. It’s an award he is no stranger to, having won it with Rotherham in December 2017 and again in February of this year.

However, fans are acutely aware of the so-called curse afflicting award winners. This is a phenomenon where those taking the prize lose their next match in a cruel twist of fate. Did this affect Warne last time out? In January 2018, his team drew with Oldham 1-1 after he picked up the award but won the next seven matches on the spin. In February 2022, he won the award, but after it was announced on March 11th, his side won just one of the next six matches.

That’s not the only focus of the fans’ reaction – others are delighted at his performance since taking over from Liam Rosenior, with the club unbeaten since October 21st. The Third Round of the FA Cup and Barnsley awaits, and they took Liverpool to a penalty shootout in the League Cup.

That’s led many supporters to dub him the League One Guardiola, and it’s hard to argue against that – in his four seasons in League One with the Millers he was promoted three times, twice automatically. He’s a proven winner at his chosen level – will he win the award?

Here’s how Rams fans have been reacting to the news.
