‘An accident waiting to happen’ – These Portsmouth fans unimpressed with 27-y/o

Portsmouth’s woeful run of form continued as they were beaten 2-0 at Fratton Park by a resurgent Sunderland side.

Sunderland went ahead early when the prolific Charlie Wyke was left free inside the box, and he headed home a corner.  Pompey’s own big name striker, John Marquis, missed a great chance to level, smashing the ball wide from six yards.

On-loan Rangers man Jordan Jones doubled Sunderland’s lead just before the hour mark, stealing the ball from Sean Raggett and lobbing MacGillivray. It prompted an outpouring of anger towards the former Norwich City man, who has struggled in recent weeks.

Raggett made his name playing for Lincoln City in the National League, scoring a goal that saw them beat Premier League side Burnley and reach the FA Cup Quarter-Final in 2017. That bagged him a move to Norwich, but he struggled for game time and spent time with Rotherham on loan, before a temporary spell at Fratton Park was made permanent in the summer.

Sadly, as Pompey have crumbled, Raggett has struggled for form and last night saw his name trending on Twitter for all the wrong reasons. He might be a victim of Portsmouth’s frailties, but he certainly incurred the wrath of the home support. It is perhaps a good thing for the former Dover defender supporters are not in the stadium, given how delicate the mood is amongst fans at present.

Still, they might not have been able to barrack the central defender in person, but they certainly did on social media, as you can see below.
