Gillingham, Northampton & Charlton featured in League One Team of the Week

The Sofa Score League One Team of the Week is out, and seven teams feature across the eleven players in the squad.

In a tight division full of surprise results at the best of times, the midweek fixtures certainly provided some shocks. One occurred at The Valley, where 2,000 fans were in to watch the Addicks lose to MK Dons. Despite the result, Ben Amos appears in goal for the TOTW, whilst MK Dons goal hero Scott Fraser also appears with the highest rating of the night, 8.8.

Northampton Town have been struggling in the league so far this season, but they surprised Fleetwood Town with a 1-0 win. Captain Cian Bolger grabbed the only goal of the game, contributing to his match rating of 8.0, putting him in the centre of defence. He is joined in the back four by Perry Ng, who helped Crewe to a 4-2 win against Swindon.

The result of the night arguably came on the south coast, as Plymouth were surprised by Rochdale, who won 4-0. Eoghan O’Connell and Jimmy Keohane appear in the back four for the TOTW, with former Southend man Stephen Humphrys up top. That game was held up for almost quarter of an hour after the opening goal through a head injury to Jake Beesley, who is now ‘ok’ according to manager Brian Barry-Murphy.

Bristol Rovers took Gillingham’s captain Max Ehmer and exciting striker Brandon Hanlon in the summer, but Steve Evans’ side had the last laugh with a 2-0 win. Vadaine Oliver bagged a brace, earning him a spot in TOTW, whilst Kyle Dempsey turned in a solid display in the midfield. They’re joined by Lincoln City’s leading scorer Jorge Grant, who bucked the trend for surprises by captaining the Imps to a 2-1 win against bottom side Wigan, sending them second.

That leaves just one place to be filled, with another Crewe hero taking the final spot in attack. Former MK Dons attacker Daniel Powell grabbed his first league goal of the season but was eye-catching as Crewe turned around a 2-0 deficit to lift themselves to 13th, six points outside the top six.
