The Sofa Score League Two Team of the Week has been revealed, and there are three teams which dominate the squad from the midweek fixtures.
Carlisle United utterly dominated their game with Salford City, albeit only winning 2-1. The Cumbrian climbed to fifth in the League Two table with a confident display, registering 23 shots, seven on target. Fans returned to Brunton Park, cheering on Chris Beech’s side on as goals from Lewis Alessandra and Rhys Bennett secured the win.
Bennett is the first of two Cumbrians in the side, his rating of 7.8 seeing him slide into centre back alongside Salford’s Di’Shon Bernard, who also scored. In the middle of the park, former Derby County man Callum Guy also gets the nod.
Exeter City occupy the last automatic promotion spot after their thumping 4-1 win against ailing Grimsby Town. Randell Williams bagged a brace, and he gets the nod up front alongside Abu Eisa, who ensured Grimsby’s Lincolnshire rivals drew to within a point of them with a win against Harrogate Town with a rating of 8.7, the best in the division. Homegrown Exeter star Jack Sprakes also made it in as the Grecians ran riot.
Bolton Wanderers are surely the biggest name in the division and they had no fewer than three players in the Team of the Week. In goal, veteran Matt Gilks has been a revelation, and he was solid as they beat crisis club Southend 3-0. Eoin Doyle, so instrumental in Swindon’s title charge, bagged a brace and another spot in the TOTW, whilst Alex Baptiste completed the defence with a rating of 8.1
The rest of the team, which you can see below, featured Port Vales Cristiano Montano, who starred despite his side losing 3-2 against Orient, and Burnley midfield Adam Phillips, on loan from Morecambe.
