Doncaster Rovers have pulled off a transfer coup by adding striker Josh Syms to their ranks, on loan from Premier League side Southampton.
The Yeovil-born 23-year-old arrives at the Keepmoat with significant pedigree, having appeared 20 times for the Saints in the Premier League.
He has also been out on loan, spending time with Reading in 2018/19, playing 17 times in the Championship. Most recently, he has been Stateside, appearing in the MLS with New York Red Bulls where he bagged his first senior goal. In total, he’s played 58 matches, with the one goal against Philadelphia Union to his name.
He now gets a chance for senior football in the third-tier, joining up with Darren Moore’s promotion hopefuls.
“I’m delighted now it’s all gone through, it’s something that I’ve been looking forward to and the way Doncaster play is ideal for me,” he told their official club site.
“I spoke with the manager and he explained to me what he wants, I’ve heard good things about the club so I’m happy that it’s fallen into place quite quickly. I’ve had a look at the squad and the other players they’ve brought in are impressive, I’m looking to play regular football now and take advantage of the opportunity.”
Doncaster finished 9th in the table last season and have started strongly this time out. They’re 11th in the table, having gained seven points from their opening four matches. They have games in hand on nine of the sides above them and face Southampton’s rivals Portsmouth this weekend.
Saints fans have been quick to offer their insight on the latest new face at the Keepmoat.

Poor Sims another academy product that's spent too much time on the fringe of the first team, waiting for his opportunity ?

Too good for league 1. He's going to tear that league up and come back fighting for the first team.

I’ve never seen him play and thought he looked out of his depth. Don’t understand why we don’t play him more.

Not sure why we just don't sell him rather than keep loaning him out
