Harrogate Town have continued their recruitment for the upcoming season by adding former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Conor Kirby to their ranks.
The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Macclesfield, impressing during his time there, but he struggled to force his way into the manager’s plans at Hillsborough and was released at the end of the season having made four substitute appearances in all competitions for the Owls.
He becomes the club’s first signing since they won promotion from the National League. Manager Simon Weaver, a former Sheffield Wednesday trainee himself, explained his delight at securing the youngster’s services.
“Connor acquitted himself very well at Macclesfield and had a really impressive season,” Weaver said.
“He’s a really energetic centre midfielder who is willing to break forward and put a tackle in, a good all-round, honest, hungry and talented lad. He has already shown he can do it in League Two and he’ll attack it with confidence.”
Kirby, who had been linked with a move to Lincoln City earlier in the summer, tweeted his delight at signing for Harrogate, who will be groundhopping with Doncaster in the early part of the season. “Absolutely delighted to sign for @HarrogateTown,” he said. “Can’t wait to get back down to business and carry on this journey!”
Sheffield Wednesday fans might not have seen much of the young midfielder, but they took to Twitter in their droves to congratulate him on his move, as you’ll see below.
