‘Do not do this’ – These Ipswich fans react as club linked with international defender

Ipswich Town are thought to be in pursuit of experienced defender Richard Keogh, as reported by TWTD.

Keogh has been without a club since being sacked by Derby County, but now at the age of 33, he is targeting a playing return. He was fired for gross misconduct in 2019, picking up a season-ending knee injury as a passenger in Tom Lawrence’s car during an accident caused by drink driving.

The anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligament damage injury was expected to rule him out for over a year and was widely believed to have ended his career, but it seems Paul Lambert is now keen to add him to the ranks at Portman Road as they hunt promotion at the second attempt. The Blues finished 11th in the League One table last season, voting to continue playing when the majority of clubs agreed to finish the season on a PPG basis.

Keogh, who has 26 Eire caps to his name, was the high-profile fall guy in the incident which saw Mason Bennett and Tom Lawrence retained by the Rams. It looked to be a sour end to a decent career which saw him play for Stoke City, Bristol City, Coventry City and Carlisle United, as well as enjoying loan spells with Vikingur, Huddersfield Town, Wycombe Wanderers and Cheltenham.

The central defender had been Derby County captain up until the car crash, which took place in September 2019. It was widely believed he would be out for 15 months, meaning Ipswich may have to wait before signing him up.

The move has led to a number of supporters expressing their opinions on Twitter, with these fans not keen on taking the 33-year-old to Portman Road.
