Oldham Atheltic sacked manager Dino Maamria yesterday, the 14th Latics manager to depart his post in the last five years.
A brief statement from the club said: “Dino Maamria has today departed the club from his role as a Head Coach of Oldham Athletic, together with his team. We would like to place our appreciation on record to Dino for his hard work and dedication. We also wish Dino all the best for his future endeavours.”
Maamria only joined the club in December and took them to 19th in the league, after Laurent Banide’s tough start to life in the hot seat. Maamria, who served in the role for ten months, making him their longest-serving manager since the departure of Lee Johnson in February 2015. His win ratio was only 28%, but he did manage to keep the ailing Latics in League Two.
Attention will now turn to the next incumbent of the role, as it seems to all-too-often at Boundary Park. Former Leeds and Liverpool man Harry Kewell is the red-hot favourite after he impressed in charge of Crawley, although he struggled at Notts County, failing to help keep them away from relegation in 2018/19. He spent just ten weeks in charge at Meadow Lane, the sort of tenure he can perhaps expect at Oldham.
Naturally, Latics fans have reacted in numbers to the latest news, with a mixture of bemusement and confusion. Maamria might not have been pulling up trees as Head Coach, but surely the stability of the club needs a manager to stay a little longer than your average pandemic?
Here’s the pick of their exasperated reactions to yet another crazy day at Oldham Athletic.

Oldham Athletic utterly shambolic. Yet another sacking, which we knew of hours before the club confirmed it. Nice to see you're sticking to being open with the fans'#Shambles
