‘He’ll frustrate’, ‘Like Football Manager’ – These fans react as Blackpool snare 25-year-old

Blackpool have announced the arrival of attacker CJ Hamilton for an ‘undisclosed fee’ from League Two side Mansfield Town.

Neil Critchely’s side have been busy in the transfer market over the last few days, spending money on the likes of Jerry Yates, and they’ve now added additional pace to their forward line in capturing the former Sheffield United man. He left Bramall Lane without a league appearance to his name, but has thrived in the basement division.

The versatile forward enjoyed a fantastic season with the Stags in 2018/19, scoring fourteen goals in fifty-five appearances as they just missed out on automatic promotion. Last season was not so great for Hamilton, who found himself out of favour with John Dempster before the manager’s sacking.

His blistering pace and eye for goal led to speculation in January that he would be snapped up by a Championship club with Preston North End and West Bromwich Albion reported to have been interested with a potential fee of £750,000 rumoured. However, a move never materialised, and he stayed at Field Mill.

“We’re delighted to welcome CJ to Blackpool, who we feel will bring a real energy to the team,” said Critchley, who joined Blackpool earlier this year from Liverpool Under 23s.

“His speed is a tremendous asset in the attacking third of the pitch and he is extremely versatile. He is someone who I’m really looking forward to working with and developing further.”

Fans of both clubs have been quick to react, with wide acclaim for the signing, although some Stags fans do have reservations, as you’ll see below.
