‘Want you back for good’ – These Pompey fans get excited over 25-y/o’s admission

Cameron McGeehan has dropped two huge hints about his future in the last 24-hours, giving Pompey fans hope he might be their player next season, whenever that might be.

He dropped a tweet of himself in a Pompey shirt with the message ‘back soon’, which seemed to have a double meaning. Some saw it as an indication he wanted to get back to playing, but could it be a broader hint that he’ll soon be back at the club for good?

That was a belief reinforced by his words on a recent episode of The Next Step Podcast. He seemingly admits that hi Barnsley career is over, even though the Tykes could be relegated into League One, which will doubtless whet the appetites of Pompey supporters.

“Obviously, I’m going to go back to Portsmouth (when the season restarts) and I’d love to get promoted here because it’s an amazing club and I’ve really enjoyed my time here,” he said.

“It would be really good if we got promoted here. I think I’ve got a year left (on his contract) at Barnsley and I think I’ll probably leave there either way from the conversations that I’ve had with them. Then it’s about going to the next club depending on how well I do at Portsmouth – that’s where I’m going to end up.

“That’s the thing with football, you’re only as good as your last game.”

The broad hints that he could be available have certainly excited this group of Portsmouth supporters, who have seen the former Luton man slip effortlessly into their midfield, adding steel and quality.
