Peterborough suffer fresh injury blow

Peterborough United have suffered a fresh injury blow with news forward Sammie Szmodics seems set to miss the rest of the month through injury.

The twenty-four-year-old has been in great form since arriving at London Road in January on loan from Championship outfit Bristol City. He’s made ten appearances scoring four goals and helped to reignite Peterborough’s League One promotion push which appeared to be faltering at Christmas.

Szmodics suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday’s 2-0 victory over Portsmouth in which he played eighty-eight minutes before being substituted.

Bristol Live reports it is still unclear whether the talented playmaker will return to Ashton Gate for treatment. They claim he will definitely miss Saturday’s trip to Bolton Wanderers and isn’t expected to return for the following home matches against Bristol Rovers and Blackpool.

Posh are hoping Szmodics will be fit to return in time to face league leaders Coventry on April 4.

The latest injury blow for Posh comes after yesterday’s revelation that defender Nathan Thompson will also be out for the rest of the month after injuring his thigh on Saturday.

Peterborough are currently sixth in League One, just three points behind Rotherham United in second. The news is an undeniable blow for a Peterborough side in a desperately close battle for promotion to the Championship.

Our View

Szmodics is a great player, and Posh will undoubtedly miss him.

However, they should still have enough in the squad to keep their challenge on track before they face Coventry in April.
