Coventry City are beginning to think about promotion this season after going top of the table on Sunday, courtesy of their 1-0 win against promotion rivals Sunderland.
The Sky Blues, who have only lost three times this season, are now two points ahead of Rotherham and perhaps more importantly, five points clear of third placed Portsmouth. Playing at their home from home, St Andrews, Coventry have taken four points this week against Rotherham and now Sunderland. A real statement of intent from Mark Robins’ side, who was in charge of his 200th Coventry City match.
It was a fast start to the game, with top scorer Matty Godden scoring after just two minutes, finishing after a smart through ball from midfielder Jamie Allen. The early goal was enough to seal another three points for the Sky Blues, who are now 13 games unbeaten and head to Ipswich on Saturday looking to extend their lead at the top.
With several rivals dropping points over the weekend, Mark Robins’ side look a good bet to return to the Championship after a eight-year absence.
