‘Verbal diarrhoea’, ‘Needs to go’ – These Bolton fans have heard enough after Wycombe defeat

Bolton’s spiral towards an inevitable relegation continued yesterday as they were beaten at home by Wycombe Wanderers.

Toto Nsiala’s 44th-minute own goal helped ease Gareth Ainsworth’s side towards their first league away win since November, with a second-half penalty seeing the result through. Remi Matthews brought down Fred Onyedinma and Joe Jacobson bagged his ninth goal of the season with the spot-kick just after the hour mark.

The Trotters competed well in the first half with both Daryl Murphy and Ethan Hamilton seeing long-range efforts saved by Ryan Allsop. They weren’t dominant though, David Wheeler, Paul Smyth and Onyedinma all going close in an end-to-end encounter.

The result means Bolton are 19 points from safety and relegation to the bottom tier looks almost inevitable, for the first time in three decades.

Despite their off-field problems, fans have begun to turn on former Rochdale boss Keith Hill the current incumbent of the Trotters job. He’s been unable to close the gap on Southend, with the pair enduring torrid seasons.

Social media was awash with criticism after the game, much of it directed at the manager, as you’ll see below.
