Port Vale moved above Colchester United in the League Two play-off race yesterday with a resounding 3-0 win at Vale Park.
Mark Cullen rounded off an impressive individual display with a brace as Vale moved up to sixth place, knocking Colchester into seventh. Tom Conlon put the home side ahead just before the quarter-hour mark. Rhys Browne outpaced Ryan Jackson and fed Conlon, who fired it past former Ipswich stopper Dean Gerken.
Cristian Montano could have added a second for the hosts, but Colchester also came close when Leon Legge cleared Ben Stevenson’s shot off the line.
After the break, John Askey’s side upped the ante; Harry Pell didn’t deal with David Worrall’s ball and it was left to Cullen to pick up and slot home. With a little under 20 minutes left on the clock, the former Blackpool man struck again. He met a Luke Joyce pass and ensured Gerken was beaten for the third time.
126 hardy souls from Essex made the 400-mile round trip and were left thoroughly disappointed at their third defeat in four matches. The Us have only won three in 12 since Boxing Day and are in danger of falling out of the top seven, something these supporters are not impressed with.
Absolute crap , Everyone of the 126 Colchester supporters should be refunded

Because it would be a nice touch by the club to show they care about the fans & bridge the widening gap between the terraces & dressing room. Yesterday was as much about travelling in atrocious conditions as the bad result. The club, chairman & team are nothing without the fans

Absolutely shocking and terrible performance the fans deserve better than that Mcgreal could of at least come over and thanked us for travelling all that way 😠😠😠

Same at Grimsby earlier in the season. Said “why wouldn’t go over to get abuse”.. becuase it was fully warranted as it was today.

Players and management team should hang their heads in shame. No fight, no application and above all, no clue

That was shocking. Must have had the ‘don’t get in the playoffs, it’s to risky’ meeting a bit later this year! Mcgreal needs to go! So 1 dimensional it’s painful
