‘Haven’t heard this before’ – Plenty of Ipswich fans react to quotes ahead of Burton clash

Ipswich Town go into tomorrow’s clash with Burton Albion having won only three games since November.

They’ve only scored once in four matches, that being a penalty by James Norwood. Creatively, they’re struggling and it is reflected in their league position. They’re seventh, outside the play-off places, and go into the fixture on the back of a 0-0 draw with struggling Wimbledon.

They’ve played more games than the sides around them and promotion is looking less likely with each shot-shy outing.

It’s a problem Paul Lambert has recognised though; he’s told the official club Twitter account that his side needs to be more ruthless. “You can have all the possession you want but we’ve got to score,” said the former Norwich City manager. “We’ve got to be more ruthless in front of goal.”

They’ve only scored more than two goals on two occasions since the start of November; winning 4-1 against Accrington Stanley in a rare avalanche of goals and losing 5-3 at Lincoln City.

Desperate improvement is needed is the fading play-off challenge is to be sustained, but with Portsmouth, Oxford, Coventry and Fleetwood making up four of their next seven opponents, improvement will have to come fast.

One or two fans on Twitter have reacted to Lambert’s words, not completely convinced the Scot is the man to take them forward.
